Get in touch by text, voice message or email and I will get back to you as soon as I can.
My passion is helping people to bridge the emotional gaps between where they have been, where they are and where they would like to be.
Are you fed up of being fed up? I work with people who instinctively know something needs to change. Whatever your age, cultural, economic or faith back ground you have a unique experience of life’s challenges. Some planned, others unexpectedly turning your world upside down, or maybe the past coming back to bother you afresh both physically and/or emotionally.
As a therapist my practice has been additionally informed by my own life experiencing, challenges, changes and losses. As a mum of 2 adult children with 18 house moves to date, I learned first-hand the path is not always a straight one! It can be hard to work out emotions, harder still to risk communicating them and almost too hard to seek support.
Counselling for over 18 years, and working with military personnel and their families, Higher Education, schools, social services and various churches has equipped me to not make assumptions or judge. I aim to work in ways that suit your personality, character and preferences, whether through talking or using more creative methods. I believe walking together may be more fruitful than struggling alone, so get in touch if you would like a conversation about working with me.
Of course I will listen... I will genuinely hear you... hear what has happened to you... what it has felt like to be you... and how things have impacted you. I will be proactively engaged... noticing, highlighting, checking out assumptions, reflecting, questioning, and challenging when needed.
I work from the premise that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours all impact each other, and can be affected by the past, present and/or the impending future. You may or may not be clear about where you would like to start, the direction or the goals you would like to set?
Anxiety, anger, communication issues, depression, gender & sexuality, life changes, loss, self-esteem, sleep problems and trauma. I have a lot of experience working with those who have/had a military connection as well as with young adults finding their way in the world.
I also enjoy working with those who have a faith perspective as this often adds another complex dimension to life issues. In addition to talking therapy and some creative online tools, we may use some somatic exercises such as breathing and relaxation techniques to better regulate your mind and body experiences. I may suggest we try Brainspotting when appropriate, and if you are interested here is a link that explains more about this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7FO_udVWkqA. I am trained to use the REWIND TECHNIQUE (devised by Dr. David Muss) for individuals troubled by intrusive memories of their own, or others' trauma. Additionally, I can offer SINGLE SESSION THERAPY (devised by Windy Dryden) which requires completion of a detailed questionnaire prior to the 90 min session.
My goal is for you to not need counselling, so I am pleased clients’ reflections and feedback suggests they feel more content, purposeful and better equipped to manage life. If that appeals to you, check the testimonials... and get in touch!
Adults 18 years to 80+years, from varied cultures, faiths, social and economic backgrounds, who are keen to understand how their minds and bodies are impacted by life experiences, and reflect on how to better manage these.
Karen immediately won my complete trust and confidence. Over the following weeks she gently guided me step by step to a completely different place. I’m not saying it was easy, but no matter what we talked about Karen didn’t miss a trick. Session by session I felt I was making progress. Honestly, if you had told me 6 months ago how much better I would be feeling now I wouldn’t have believed you. I did question whether meeting online would work as well as face to face but on reflection I think it did. . The whole experience has been transformative for me. I can’t thank Karen enough.

Karen really helped me to realise a lot of about myself & the things that I need & want in my life. I was very depressed at the start of my therapy journey, there were some painful truths that I needed to hear to get me to where I am today, I cannot thank Karen enough, the effort she put into getting to know me and to see what I needed to change in a short amount of time was truly amazing, I felt for the first time in a while that someone actually cares about me. I am the happiest I have been in such a long time.

After going through an incredibly abusive relationship I was not sure I was going to be able to get my confidence back. I was suffering from severe anxiety and depression and I wasn’t sure it was going to get any better. I am so incredibly grateful to Karen who was so patient with me whilst I talked through my trauma. She made me feel so listened to and made me realise that the feelings that I had that I considered ‘silly or stupid’ were so normal and valid. I have struggled to speak to friends and family about what I have been through but Karen put me at such ease. I finally feel like I can move forward and start living again! Karen is absolutely amazing and I will be forever grateful to her for the support she gave to me.

I really appreciate my Counsellor Karen, for her help. I managed to become the person that God intended me to be. My confidence is back, depression and anxiety is ‘bye bye for good’. I will keep all the techniques of how to overcome when they try to crowd in my life. Thank you Karen, for taking me through this journey and now it turned beautiful at the end. I really appreciate your time and all the work you put into me.
